WWII assignments

Chapter 34: Complete the two Chapter 34 charts. The first chart with the 4 different leaders should be completed with Section 34.2 in the book. The additional chart should be completed with Sections 34.3-34.5 and it starts on the side that says 1935-1936 Germany remilitarizes. You need to have a sentence or two describing the action and at least 2-3 reactions to the action. Once you have completed this, you need to outline the box of anything that is an aggressive action in black. In the reaction column, you outline any block that shows a weak reaction in green. If the reaction is strong, you outline it in red.

The Century: Over the Edge: The link to the video segments are on the left hand side of my page. The question sheet is on my teacher page under files.

With these three assignments completed, you may come and take or retake the Chapter 34 quiz.

Chapter 36:

The Chapter 36 handout is attached. That handout must be completed in great detail in order for you to pass the chapter quiz.

Assignment beginning with the Biocube Project and ending with GD/ND Test

BIOCUBE PROJECT: Complete a biocube on any 1920s character. A list of 1920s personalities is linked to my teacher page. It is called “Ideas for 1920s Museum Project.” When the Biocube is complete, you need to write 2 different 2-chunk paragraphs. The first paragraph needs to contain facts you learned about your character. The second paragraph should be your opinion about your character. If you are struggling with how to write a 2-chunk paragraph, there is a link on  my website on the left hand side to a form you can use to write these paragraphs. Just be sure you print them out as soon as you write them as you cannot save from this form.

If you are wondering why your grade is so low and you haven’t done this assignment, it’s because it is a project grade. You could raise your grade at least one letter grade by completing this project.

Chapter 26

Watch “The Century: Boom to Bust.” The link to all three segments is on my teacher page. The question sheet for the movie is in my files called “Peter Jennings Boom to Bust.”

The second thing you need to do is complete the note sheet for Chapter 26. You need to complete everything on this page, including a 2-chunk paragraph about whether or not Sacco & Vanzetti should be granted clemency. You will need this for the quiz.

Once you have all of this, bring it and I will give you the Chapter 26 quiz.

Chapter 27

Politics of Normalcy – There is a powerpoint and a note sheet on my teacher page. Watch the powerpoint and fill in your answer sheet.

There is no quiz for this chapter

1920s Test

No notes are allowed on unit tests. If you didn’t take the test or you need to retake it because you received a no pass or are not happy with your grade, see me.

Chapter 30

Going for the Gold – game we played in class. If you were absent for the game, talk to someone in class and ask them to describe it.

Notes on Chapter 30 – Chapter 30 note sheet is on teacher page. Need to do everything on it except what is labeled Processing Assignment.

America the Story of Us: Bust – Note sheet is on my teacher page. The video is available on Netflix. If you do not have Netflix, you will have to come and watch it in my room over lunch or after school.

Once you have all of this done, you can come to me and take the Chapter 30 homework quiz.

Chapters 31 and 33

1932 election notes – only 3 slides from a powerpoint. Copy all three slides.

New Deal agency chart – see chart on teacher page. You can use the chart in your book on pg. 424 for the Relief/Recovery/Reform column of the chart. The answer in this column could be more than one of these. Do not use the description from this chart to complete the description for the agency. It will be way too incomplete for you to answer the questions correctly. The agencies are in order from start of chapter to the end of chapter.

Once you complete all of Chapter 31 and 33 homework, you can come and take the homework quiz.

Grapes of Wrath: Question sheet for this movie is on my teacher page. We watched this movie from a DVD and I don’t know if it is available online. Do you need the answers to the questions from this movie for the Unit Test.

GD/ND Unit Test: When you are ready you can come take this test. No notes are allowed on this test.

Beginning of 1920s

Students should complete their webquest on the 1920s which will cover a great deal of the information for this unit. We will have a quiz on it on Monday, March 12, so if students did not complete it in class, they must do so my Monday. The Webquest is a document located on my teacher page. They need to have a printed out version to use on their homework quiz and to put into their notes.

I. Wilson’s Vision for World Peace (NOTE: this is the title of Section 25.2)

A. Fourteen Points to End All Wars

1.

2.

B. Wilson’s Unusual Decisions

1.

2.

II. Ideals Versus Self-Interest at Versailles (NOTE: Now you are on 25.3)

Chapter 24

First, such a much better job on Chapter 23 quizzes. I think you are all getting the hang of it!

Chapter 24 is about War on the Homefront.

1. Watch Influenza 1918 which is part of the PBS American Experience series. You will take notes on a. factors that contributed to the spread of flu and b. actions of public health officials. The flu epidemic is little covered in US history courses, but killed 675,000 Americans, so it is definitely something we should know about.

Link to the movie: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/influenza/player/

2. Students worked in groups to take notes about one subset of Americans and both their stance on the war and how the war impacted the group. Those notes were shared on Wednesday and possibly Thursday. The chart with all of the groups and the notes you should have taken is on my teacher page under Chapter 24 chart.

We will take a quick quiz over Chapter 24 on Friday and begin talking about Chapter 25, the Treat of Versailles and the end of World War I.
